Before the shoot at the 'Studios' with the news anchor Illy and I had plenty of props to set up. We had a list of things to get from around town. We were looking to find somewhere to print our logo onto a mug, or T-shirt. Most places we went to quoted us about 10 working days. So we took the initiative to do it ourselves. I suggested we should buy a plain t-shirt, go to hobby craft and buy the craft items there for example paints to paint the logo onto the T-shirt and pens to draw the logo onto the mug. In the end we bought:
Pin Board
Card (Green/Black)
Double sided sticky tape

Walked through the knitting section which gave me the idea to have the presenter trying to knit. So we bought super large knitting needles, and wool as we though this would be comedic to release tension in our news channel.

Went to Primark and bought 2 Shirts. Different colour 1 Maroon and 1 Navy blue. Both were different sizes because we did not know what size our presenter was. So at least there was an option.

We also went to poundland and bought the cup and found some crafty decor to dress up the noticeboard and bought scissors.

Coming back to the studio, Illy and I split duties. Illy created the logo for the mug and the noticeboard, and I created the noticeboard and with my knowledge of knitting, I started knitting a few rows for the link after the 'live' knitting report. When Tim and Hannah came in, they started to set up the base room into a studio by creating space and moving the sofa into the room. By this time, I had brought in my own lights and started setting up the lights. Tim set up the camera whilst Illy and Hannah set out the props.

Lighting

The lighting took a bit of time to set up because there were too many shadows casting on the wall. We had two 6500K lights on, one on each side of the presenter. Also the light was on the wall was really bright, even though the light had a filter to disperse the light. So it was difficult to get the lighting balanced. We moved the lighting quite a lot, higher and lower to try and get rid of the shadows. Then I remembered the studio workshop we did, and remembered to get a softer shadow we had to move the people away from the background. So we tried moving the sofa away from the wall which meant moving the rest of the equipment backwards to soften the shadow, then switch off one of the lights on one side and switched on the main lights.

Communication

Throughout the recording time we had a mix up with roles, but because of time restraints everyone helped each other out. I, as a director wanted a specific shot, and because Tim was on camera and he hadn't learn't how to use the canon. So, I asked Illy who I knew was a confident user to show Tim how to function the camera so he can set it up and shoot. I had asked Illy to help with the camera when needed because I did not want to waste Dave's time - the presenter. I could already see the frustration in Tim about how we were handling the situation, but I thought at a time like this, it wasn't the time to teach. We had to be professional and just do it.

Sound

Other issues came up, Hannah, in charge of sound had problems picking up the sound. When playing back the sound, the sound was really low. So in the end as we were taking so long, we called in Fergus our technician to help. His expertise helped save us wasted time. Whilst Fergus was helping set up the sound, Illy was liaising with Ben to keep him entertained.
Next time we need to make sure we can set up the sound and make sure it is working fully before taking the sound kit out especially to a location shoot.
