With time running out, everyone had to collaborate in their own time to get editing done because the Fiction Adaptation Project was clashing and people still hadn't started filming their adaptation work.

Being Away from Editing

I had to go off to Alnwick which was planned, booked and paid for 2 months in advance not realising that we were going to be behind for our news project. Illy made a start with the editing along with Hannah. We had set Tim to create the webpage for our news channel. When I came back 50% of the film was already edited together.

I worked on some of the sound clips and syncing the sound and clips together. Listening to Tim saying in the camera, what 'take' it was, made finding clips a lot easier, to find the correct one. Illy, and Hannah went into the studios over the weekend to do more editing. By the next time I came in, all we had to edit was add the voice over for the statement, adding in the vox pops we had just shot on that day and looking for a sound for the intro and outro. I was working with Illy on this part of the edit.

Snacks to keep us going for the evening.

Hannah managed to find a jingle that was suitable for our channel, however Illy also had a intro that she had found. So we asked Illy to send the link so we could have a listen to it. I thought that the jingle was too bouncy and suitable for animal channel rather than our channel. So unfortunately we had to deny Illy's request. As the director I thought my decision was the best one for our channel, and it was final that we use the one Hannah found. Hannah and I realised and came to a conclusion that most news channels do not have many credits at the end. So we decided to leave it out. By now we completed the rest of the edit, all we needed was to add in the intro and outro.

Voice overs

Illy
We also had to record Illy's voice over in the sound recording room with the sound mixer. Problems occurred when people in the studio were being too noisy in which the recording picked up their conversations. We both tried to ask the students in a nice manner to please be quiet for a couple of minutes so we could record the voice overs. After a few attempts of asking them, Illy and I were fed up and Illy told them in a serious voice to please be quiet or leave the room as we had not been able to record a clean voice over.
After a while, knowing how stressed we were about the recording Andrei came in to help us reduce the background noise without increasing 'white noise' on the recording. Which made it a lot better for us to record.

Charlie

As Hannah and I already had the fostex out, we decided it was easier to record a voice over of Charlie reading Mike Whitings Statement. We used the sound recording room to block out any noise. Charlie was brilliant and it took him a few goes at reading the statement until it was correct and until any of it was useable.
