During BFI film festival I decided to go to watch a series of short experimental films to help with research and inspiration for my adaptation work. The listings were: Imitations of Life, The life and light that shines through the cracks and In the Garden of Forked paths.

Out of the three, I preferd Imitations of life because they were very abstract, avant-garde and metaphorical.
I noticed the use of match on action in alot of the films flickering between shots which created a disturbing reaction out of the audience. This was most likely done deliberately. Also, many of the artists used sound effects in their film rather than a composed piece of music. These are some of the elements I will be using for my adaptation.

From watching the series, I have decided to take the element of sound effects and use it in my film. Together with watching 'World War' documentray, I have decided that the sound effect for my film will be industrial sounds because the wars time period was in its industrial revolution. This will be played whilst images of nature is being shown as a contrast in the film. By doing this I would like to create a emotional reaction from the audience, as war is an emotional and disturbing subject. I would like to make the audience feel uncomfortable as the soldiers would have been in the war.
Using the element of match on action, I have decided to do a time lapse of the sun rising and the sun setting, but flickering between a shot of the moon, which shows light and dark contrast.

Noticing that most of the shorts are in black and white, I have yet to think about my colour scheme for my film.
