Fables
What is a Fable?
Fable derived from a
latin word ‘fibula’ which means a story that is a derivative of the word ‘Fari’
which means to speak. A Fable can be defined as a concise and brief story
intended to provide a moral lesson at the end.
In literature, it is
described as a didactic[1]
lesson given through some sort of animal story. In proves and verse, a fable is
described through plants, animals, forces of nature and inanimate objects by
giving them human attributes wherein they demonstrate a moral lesson at the
end.
Purpose of Fables
The purpose of
writing a fable is to convey a moral lesson and message. Fables also give
readers a chance to laugh at the follies of human beings and they can be
employed for the objective of satire and criticism. They are very helpful in
teaching children good lessons based on examples. However, in literature,
fables are used for didactic purposes at a much broader level.
[1] Didactic; intended to teach, particularly in having moral instruction as an ulterior motive.

Why did I choose to adapt fables?
I chose to adapt
fables because I feel it is important to learn morals and to be able to differentiate right from wrong. When we grow, we are exposed to the ugly side of nature, which develops us to accept and be unkind to others, this turns into a rough cycles of life.
Not
only will this series of shorts remind us as human beings, I feel this will help improve the way
we behave towards each other to better our lifestyles and see things in a
positive way. Such as ‘No act of Kindness is wasted, no matter how small’.
Target Audience
Although people of all ages could learn from morals, the series will be targeted
at young teenagers growing up. The aim will be to help re-focus their lifestyles
especially when there are so many distractions such as boyfriends/girlfriends, social media, (bad) news, cat videos etc... in the new generation.
Duration
It will be a series
of short films collaborated together. Each fable would be about 5-10mins long
depending on the story.
Characters
Each episode will
have different people playing different characters. Each character would
represent the animals that have their own individuality such as humans so we as
an audience can relate.
Style
The world I am
creating will be fantasy in reality. Such as the characters will be fantasy in
the real world situation. Such as TV series like Twin Peaks 1990, Once upon a time 2011 and Hannibal 2013.
Costume/Make up
The costume and
make-up will be inspired by ‘The Tribe’ and ‘Cirque du soleil’ with natural
features. The characters will be humans, but with animal features to represent
each animal in the story.
The Tribe - Eagle
The Tribe - Mozquitos
The Tribe - Pride
Cirque - Fire Within
Alegria - The Nymphs
Totem
