End of Week 2
On the day of
the shoot, locations were not planned. As this was a exercise people living in
the area had to think of places that they knew had graffiti. We found most of
the graffiti had been cleaned or covered up in the area. Time was running out
and we had to hunt the graffiti as we go. We already knew the shots would be
outside. There were 2 main cars so the group could fit including the kit. Our
group took out 1 canon, Mike had his own sound kit, clip mics and I had my own
Sony DSLR. we decided Babs would film the main sequence and I would shoot the
cut aways. This is so we could cut down the time where I can shoot the cut
aways whilst Babs would run through the directions with the director. We went
to 2 different locations to shoot our ‘tour’. As the weather was bitter cold,
and we had been outside all day, for the last reflection shots we found
somewhere nearby with different background to shoot the reflection of the tour
guide. We also had Mark reflect his views in the car as we had the shots start
from him getting out of the car just to round it back to the beginning.
Reflection of
the shoot
There were some
problems on the shoot. There were sound problems. For the clip mics, there were
no batteries so we couldn’t use the clip mics. When I was listening to the
sound because Mike had to be infront of camera, I had a few problems. 1 I
couldn’t see the camera so I didn’t know how far in I could take the mic to get
the best sound, no one told me if the shots were going to be any closer or
further away. 2 there was a buzzing tone through the kit. Maybe there was a
cable problem, we couldn’t do much about it as we were out so we carried on
shooting. On the real shot we will need to check all equipment before taking
out the kit before shooting.
The weather was
bitter cold, and we should have taken a couple more breaks to warm fingers and
toes up, I was struggling to hold the mic in my hands and to press the record
button when my fingers became so numb. I think if the day was planned out
properly and not shoot on the go we would have been able to fit the breaks in.
Obviously the real tour would be more organized and we would not be outside for
the full day hunting for the graffiti.
Overall I felt
everyone did a great job and a film could be made out of the shots we filmed.
No one argued and there were great communication skills in our team.
