Through research development and putting together my experiences and ideas I was able to create an outline of the story, by breaking down my experiences into a few parts.

I wanted the character to go into a spiritual awakening in which they become a better person and face their fears, which she does.
When the character's mind begins to go crazy, this will give me room to explore surreal imagery as if the audience were looking from the characters perspective.

Vidys (Working Title) Moodboard

I have created a moodboard to convey what I would like to create. Images includes influences and  elements of sound design, colours and costume design.

Nosferatu (1922) directed by W. F. Marnau

Nosferatu (1922), Nosferatu's shadow directed by W. F. Marnau

Nosferatu inspired me to come up with the style of the shadow. The shadow has a symbolic meaning which portrays a figure in the past who created a false reality of hope and friendship. The shadows will give me room to experiment with lighting and creating shadows from friendly to fearful.

Eyes wide shut (1999)- directed by Stanley Kubrick

I liked the idea of the character without a face to give it a sense of no identity, where she didn't know who she is before transcending into someone who gives herself identity. After watching Eyes wide shut it influenced my character to be wearing a mask. I loved the different unique stylistc masks they were wearing in the occult ritual, which was seen in the party.

Peacocks

Peacocks to me are beautiful and I feel they are powerful symbols, mostly found in exotic countries. Looking deeper to meaning of peacocks they can mean:

Glory
Vision
Royalty
Spirituality
Awakening
Immortality
Refinement
Incorruptibility

'In history, myth, legend and lore, the peacock symbolism carries portents of: Nobility, Holiness, Guidance, Protection and watchfulness.'

In the story when the character is abandoned, I want to show the emotions of pain and suffering, and I will do this by filming a montage on close ups of metaphorical symbols and collectively will portray the emotions. Examples of this can be seen in The strange colour of your body's tears (2013) directed by Bruno Forzani and Helene Cattet.

As well as this I have thought about costumes which also can portray the emotions, such as a caged mask, to represent that mentally she is trapped because she fears leaving her friends abode.

I wanted to use the symbolism of the peacock and subtly incorporate it to my character. She will represent a free spirit who will become trapped but as a peacock, she will transcend spiritually and eventually awaken to enlightenment. This will be presented through masks such as the on in the picture above.

Blue Peacock

White Peacock

When my character transcends into enlightenment, she will transform form a blue peacock into a rare, pure white peacock.

  1. lots of interesting thoughts and images coming through this. I can see where you are going, and it seems appropriate. Be careful of any "story" where a character is looking to be "better"... i think searching/hunting for a sense of selfunderstanding is what appears to be coming through clearly. keep the focus on your story at this stage - and once you have that allow the influncnces of other art works to come into the picture. story first, references later.
